WELCOME TO PADANG - HOME OF MINANGKABAU TRIBE
Padang, capital of West Sumatra, is n access point to the surfing sites of the Mentawai islands, Bukittinggi and Kerinci Seblat National Park. The city is very pleasant with a nice promanade along the beach, distinctive Padang architecture and wonderfully friendly people. The city is also the home of the delicious Padang food at the town is stuffed with restaurants and street stalls. Padang is the gate to Bukittinggi, the mainland of Minangkabau tribe. Close to Padang is Sikuai Island, a very tranquil island only 30 minutes by boat. About 5:00 pm on Sep 30th, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck just offshore of the town of Padang. Now, tourism there must go on and run as previously.
